Miscommunication and misunderstanding runs rampant in our society. Listeners are often elsewhere in their heads, not focusing on what's being said, and end up not understanding. Or, thinking they understood when they actually didn't understand.
These misunderstandings can lead to a lot of wasted time and effort when action needs to be taken based on what the listener thought they heard. It also ends up being a poor reflection on the listener and perhaps on the quality of work they deliver...or fail to deliver.
